The Woodlands Inn

For three generations, The Woodlands Inn in Wilkes-Barre has impressed wedding couples and their guests with its breath-taking scenery, homemade cuisine and upscale amenities.

Donna Keyes, director of sales and marketing, says couples can choose from various scenic locations to say “I do” or have cocktails, including an area along Laurel Run Stream, a wooded grove or a streamside deck. “If the weather doesn’t cooperate, an event can be held in an indoor glass lounge and guests can still enjoy the outdoor beauty,” she says. A waterfall and wooden bridge provide stunning backdrops for photos.

The inn’s ballrooms can be transformed into whatever wedding couples can dream up. “For one reception, we created a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream that included lattice, special lighting, flowers and Roman pillars,” Keyes recalls.

All food is prepared on the premises. “Recipes have been passed down through the generations,” says Keyes.

The resort is run by three brothers in the Kornfeld family who are very hands-on. Rick, the general manager, oversees weddings; Ross handles operations; and Mitch is in charge of entertainment and dining. “You may find them preparing your food or serving you,” Keyes says. Many of the same staff have worked for the family for decades.

In addition, a lounge and deck are available until 2 a.m. for after-the-wedding parties—which are gaining popularity.
