Decorating 101: Layers of Style
I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,A church filled with family and friends. I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for,He said one that would make me his wife.
While those words are all too simple, the amount of time and energy that goes into the
preparation of a wedding and its design are all too grueling and need to be looked at in layers.
You need linens, you need flowers, you probably think you need candles – but how does all of
this fit together? Those layers of design need to be addressed one piece at a time. Here are a few
of our favorites, and how they can help impact your design by thinking outside of the box and
building on a wonderful concept… LOVE!
Wedding Kissing Balls or Pomanders
Earlier used only as Christmas decorations, kissing balls or pomanders have now become
quite popular for any kind of celebration or event that demands decoration. They are basically
foam balls that are adorned with flowers, fabric, etc. to give it a round and full appearance.
While the earlier versions were made using holly and mistletoe, today they are made using
many different materials. The favorite though is still flowers: real or artificial. They are used
extensively to decorate wedding venues, tables and even as bridal and bridesmaids’ bouquets.
They can garnish a mantel, be hung, fit into vases or be carried by a flower girl, very versatile!
One of the most important aspects of a wedding is the wedding decoration. From wedding
flowers to centerpieces, there are many elements in wedding decoration that you have to take
care of. Table decorations for wedding receptions should match the theme of the wedding.
There are many unique ways to decorate a table for the wedding reception from using fresh
and artificial flowers, crystals and candles to using ribbons, sprinkles and confetti. Most of
these table decorations can be bought from stores that specialize in such wedding decorations.
However, if you want something that is one of a kind and completely unique, than you can
make some of the table decorations yourself, which should be well planned and require little
if any day of work on your part!
The Wedding Cake is a layer in your décor. It can be fun, whimsical or classic. Either way,
the cake should fit tastefully into the theme so as not to look like a complete disconnect to the
rest of the reception. The perfect place for a disconnect as well as a different flavor is the grooms
cake – it can be a hobby, a game station or an armadillo (think Steel Magnolias!) and of course
flavor options are limitless!
An often-sidelined element of wedding décor, table linen, is calling out to you to see and
understand its importance. Table linen is that one constant at any wedding. Themes change,
seasons change, colors change, but table linen is that one element that you simply cannot do
without. Believe it or not, the linen at your wedding can play a major role in deciding the overall
aesthetics of your wedding venue. The right linen can ameliorate it but the wrong one can make
it look like a hodge podge of random stuff thrown together, like a failed attempt at a DIY wedding,
and NO one wants that!
Place cards need not just have a functional purpose. Unique designs and versatile place card
holders can be used to beautify the tables. Use a beautifully beaded gold place card holder for
a traditional wedding or a flip flop or a starfish place card holder for a beach wedding. For a
fall wedding choose a classic maple place holder. Use place card designs that uniquely reflect
your personal sense of style and creates a lasting impression on your guests for years to come.
With lots of great ideas in your kitty it is quite easy to go overboard with the wedding reception
table decorations. However, the thing to remember is, to keep it elegant and economical while
keeping the budget in mind, for a stunning wedding reception setting.
Creating an ambiance in the reception is all too important. Often the existing lighting doesn’t
leave a good impression on the finished product. Usually, less is more! The option of dimming
lights, adding color or light movement will dramatically enhance the room, especially after
dark! Even in a space that might not be perfect, removing some light, adding color spots or some
sort of dramatic fixture will markedly improve the finished look of the reception. The cost to do
this is minimal compared to renting a more expensive hall and will achieve a good deal of effect
for the dollars spent!
Candy Buffet Ideas for Weddings
While choosing candies for the candy buffet, one should consider the wedding theme, colors, and
one’s favorite candies. Wedding candy buffets inspired by the wedding theme appear very
attractive at the wedding reception. Candy buffets with coordinated colors appear far better than
the random-colored ones. Now let’s not forget about the table centerpiece. The whole candy buffet is
to be arranged around the centerpiece, so it’s definitely an important aspect of the candy buffet. You
can place anything large and attractive, such as vases filled with fragrant flowers, lamp shade, etc.
Depending on the wedding theme, one can select the candy buffet idea to match the theme or
color scheme… and who doesn’t like candy?
